Homemade Beef Tallow (Dripping)

Homemade Beef Tallow (Dripping)

Ingredients:

  • 750g beef fat, chopped into small pieces
  • 1 mug of water

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Beef Fat: Chop the beef fat into small pieces. The smaller the pieces, the quicker they will render.
  2. Start Rendering: Add the chopped beef fat to a large saucepan. Pour in about a mug full of water—this helps prevent the fat from burning during the initial stages of rendering.
  3. Simmer: Place the saucepan over medium-low heat. Simmer gently for 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally. The fat will gradually melt and separate from any solids.
  4. Strain the Tallow: Once the fat has fully rendered, line a sieve with kitchen paper or cheesecloth. Carefully pour the melted fat through the sieve into a heatproof container to strain out any solids.
  5. Cool and Store: Pour the strained tallow into a clean jar. Allow it to cool completely before sealing. Store the jar in the fridge, where it will solidify. Your beef tallow can be stored for several months.

Tip: Use beef tallow for frying, roasting, or adding flavour to dishes. Enjoy its rich flavour and high smoke point!
